From My Studio

Welcome to my new weekly newsletter.

I hope you are having an amazing creative week!

My goal with this newsletter is to share some highlights of my week, any finds I’ve discovered, and random thoughts about business and life.

Today I woke up to 35 degrees. Daytime highs will be in the mid-60s and 70s so I can handle the chilly morning.

1. Just in case you missed it, here was our blog post on Wednesday. I focused on evening rituals. It was a follow-up to an earlier post on morning rituals. I’d love to hear about your rituals. They really make a difference.

2. “Creativity is there to help us explore who we are.”

I love that quote from Gina Niederhumer, a stitcher who lives in South Africa.

That’s just one of the gems in the film A Creative Life created by Green Renaissance, a small indie production house in Cape Town, South Africa. The goal of the filmmakers is to make films that we hope will inspire and share hope and positivity out into the world.

This film features four different artists  — a stitcher, a woodworker, an Origami artist, and a writer — talking about art and life. About how art makes you feel.

Another quote from Gina, because I’m a stitcher:
“Just trust in life and stitch. It will be fine.”

3. It’s October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I just made my mammogram appointment.

We can all agree how horrid cancer is. You’ve likely been touched by this disease. In my immediate family, my mother had breast cancer, my sister had malignant melanoma. I have cousins and aunts who have had lung cancer. I’ve had several precancerous lesions removed from my face and hands over the past few years. (I made that checkup appointment today, too.)

One way we can take positive steps to improve our odds of not getting cancer is by paying more attention to our nutrition and exercise. That’s one reason I love the FASTer Way to Fat Loss. I’ve learned so much about better nutrition — and I was already eating healthfully — and have increased my strength through resistance training. That is making a difference for me. It can make a difference for you, too.

My next round of the FASTer Way starts on Monday, Oct. 19. And, if you are a cancer survivor you’ll get an extra 25% discount.

I’d love to chat about the program with you! I want you to get the same results my clients and I get.

Just message me and we can set up a time to chat. Here are more details.

4. Show Cancelations and Online Viewing

When we started down this covid road, I didn’t expect I’d see so many shows canceled beyond this year. Last week the American Quilters Society announce that all of its 2021 shows were canceled. Quilt Market and Quilt Festival will be virtual. (quilts.com) The Mancuso shows are virtual currently and you can view Pacific International Quilt Festival online for free. (https://www.onlinequiltfestival.com/)

If your tastes extend to all fine craft, you can also attend the Smithsonian Craft Show online. I’ve been enjoying the wearable art in particular.

5. Have you ever thought of turning your unwanted junk mail into art?

I ran across this fun blog post titled 13 Brilliant Things To Make With Recycled Junk Mail.

You can use the junk mail in your recycle stack or try some with fabric and a stiffener.

Let me see what you come up with.
